The Family Tree
John Ferdinand Dunker Carsten and Ida (Edith) Schluter
Family Unit

John Ferdinand Dunker Carsten b. 1848 Kiel, Germany d.
Comments:
I always have been pretty sure that some of my cousins probably were related to an old horse thief and if my source is right, they really are related to a cattle rustler.  Ol' John Carsten seems to have immigrated from Germany and spent some time in jail while passing through Des Moines, Iowa before reaching Cheyenne around 1880.  The family spent about three years in Cheyenne before moving to Grover.  Eventually old John was caught rustlin' cattle from his own boys and spent some more time in jail - this time in Greeley.  The family name may have been spelled two ways - after the ol' man got busted some of the family moved to California and may have spelled the name Carston.

In his last will, John used his birth name, Dunker.  His will excluded four of his children from the "Estate" even though two of the excluded people were already deceased.

Ida (Edith) Schluter  b. 1846 Hamburg, Gernany d. 9/19/1922 Denver, CO
Comments:
Ida also immigrated from Germany.  The couple may have been married prior to leaving Germany but there is an indication that their wedding may have occurred after they arrived in the new world.  Cousin Margaret has a letter in storage from one of their grand-daughters that contains dates and places for births and anniversaries.  Hopefully she will be able to retrieve it from storage soon.

  August b. 1878   d. .
Comments:  Lived in Grover with his wife and children.  August died of a heart attach while helping brand some cattle.  After his death he was buried in Grover and his wife ordered a big head-stone for the grave but it was removed when the family was unable to pay for it.  The wife and children then moved to California.
