Karen's Follow-up - Sept. 2nd, '03
Hi Roger:Thanks for your email of today about Oland. Our son, Kris, has done some research on his own years ago about Oland and would be the first to sign up for a trip there. Our first sailboat, a 20-ft. Catalina purchased at the Boat Show in the Cow Palace in S.F. about l980 we named Oland. We had more than one boater stopped to talk to us about that island and since we'd never been there we were ignorant. Too bad. It has certainly gone through my mind to make a trip there. Ed isn't big on travel, he'd rather be fishing but he'd go if I persisted I think.
Russ and DeeDee are the big travelers. I guess you know that Russ son, daughter in law and triplets now 3 are moving to Brussels next week. She is a chief finance officer for a large travel company and has been transferred and promoted. Dad is the care giver for the triplets and has been since they were born. His field is teaching, you guessed it. P.E. is his specialty. I imagine Russ and DeeDee will make it to Sweden before too many trips to see them. Russ has also been the nanny since they were born so he is very attached to the 2 girls and one boy.
Is Mori your son-in-law. Guess Natalie is your daughter. Where does she live? Is it a daughter or son that lives in Boulder?
Could you please put Kris back on your list of folks to forward emails about the family. He is very interested tho a very busy dad of three, the oldest being 7. His wife in a physician and works three days a week and Kris in computer work works 4 day weeks. Heidi also does some weekend "on calls" so is at work at least one weekend a month and sometimes more, just depending. I'm going out to help with the nanny's job since she is going to be gone for two weeks in late Sept. and til the 10th of Oct. I love being there and feel so fortunate that I am the one they call when they need help. Heidi's mother and dad live in the same town and we are VERY close friends. I know she'll help too when the need be but it is an excuse for me to get out there and I love it. Kris' email is kriso@packetdesign.com.
Ed, Jim and Kris are talking about a Yellowstone trip next summer. We go about every 4 years or so. When we lived in Ft. Collins Ed went every summer and most of the time Kris went with him. If you would be interested in knowing when and the details Ed will be happy to mail you information. We usually just put out the dates we have picked and tell all the family and are happy with whomever makes it. I think last time we had about 21 or so there.
We usually reserve cabins at Lake, take several boats and fish out in Yellowstone Lake. There are some campgrounds nearby too and a very large hotel at Lake. It has a huge dining room which is quite elegant but there are also snack bars etc. nearby. In the lodge serving the cabins there is a huge lounge area plus a cafeteria. The food is okay. No one goes hungry that is for sure.
It is probably about 6 hours from GJ. Maybe less. We drive 8 hrs. from Ft. Collins, 10 from C.S. Seems like it is $35 or more per person per night in the cabins. depends on how many are in a cabin. We'd probably just let everyone make there own reservations and Ed can give folks the phone number to reserve. Reservations usually have to be in by January or else they get full. I'm sure there are cancellations along the time frame of Jan. to July but we've never tried to look for any. Just a thought. Time to get after some outdoors work.
I think the thunderstorm has passed over now. Getting to be a regular afternoon happening. Sat. and Sunday were cold, rainy and foggy here. Really spoiled lots of folks plans. C.S. has had a balloon festival for 27 years over Labor Day weekend and never had it rained so much that none of the balloons could go up. What a disappointment for many folks. Thursday our cable went out and we still don't have it repaired thanks to Adelphia. Since there are only two on our line, they weren't too impressed about coming and fixing it. Tomorrow is the appointment. Imagine we will be getting quite a bit of credit this month.
That's about it. Have a good day. When will Sharon be coming home? Hope all went well with the physical. I have a hard time getting Ed there but insist every two years and he goes off and gets all the tests necessary.
