I almost reached the cave in the center of the
picture - the last 50 feet were essentially vertical - some hand/toe holds
were barely visible but they are nearly eroded away. Common sense
finally prevailed - I turned back. |

this shot would help provide a sense of scale. |

There are a lot of reasons to think this is the
Tarantula Hawk wasp, but also a couple of things to raise some
doubt. So, I am guessing at - Hemipepsis |

This flower is so distinctive - I figured I
would spot it in one of the books within 5 minutes - I still am looking! |

Near the Sun Bowl turnoff, I spotted this field
carpeted by sunflowers. After making a left turn onto a dirt road, I
noticed the riders way at the back of the field - Helianthella
quinquenervis - Aspen Sunflower |
