MVC-092S.JPG (82737 bytes) As we travel along I-40, we are either just starting a trip, or we are so close to home when returning from a trip, that Ms. Trekker never wants to stop.  Finally one trip I was returning on my own and seized the chance to stop at the Meteor Crater Monument between Flagstaff and Winslow.
MVC-075S.JPG (67460 bytes) The top picture is of the left side (east) of the crater.  This picture straight away to the south side.
MVC-076S.JPG (64704 bytes) And the view of the right (west) side of the crater. There just isn't anyway to photographically show the enormity of the crater.
MVC-077S.JPG (92228 bytes) This is a house sized boulder that was ejected from the crater and landed on the top of the east side.
MVC-081S.JPG (91121 bytes) NASA used the crater for training exercises at the start of the space program.  Near the center of the picture is a replica of a suited up astronaut standing beside the flag.  Initially there were several attempts to mine the bottom of the crater - none proofed successful.  But the remnants from the attempts remain on the floor of the Crater.
